Driverless car focus shifts to Glasgow in 2015

The prestigious IEEE Vehicle Technology Conference is being held in Glasgow in May 2015. It will be hosted by the the University of Strathclyde in its new $150m Technology Innovation Centre. The organisers are now reaching out to researchers across the world for papers on their latest work. Recently the issue of driverless cars was raised in the UK, as the Government announced its plans to allow the use of driverless cars on UK roads from January 2015. [ BBC article ]. Among the technologies needed to facilitate driverless vehicles, wireless communications will have a key role. Wireless networks will enable vehicles to receive the latest information on road conditions and to exchange information - improving transport efficiency as well as increasing road safety. Even if driverless cars were not on the horizon, mobile Internet connectivity to the vehicle presents interesting challenges for wireless communications technology.
